About Camp Yo

Camp Yo’ is a character development 3-day weekend camp created by Live2Create Foundation Network, to focus on building life applicable self-leadership skills through the arts. The program is geared towards middle and high school youth looking to build leadership, communication, and other 21st century skills such as: collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving skills, and who have an interest in subjects such as:

ART: Design, Illustration, Media  | DANCE: Breaking, Locking, Tricking, Krumping, Choreography, Hip-Hop | DRAMA: Human Video, Creative Writing, Short Film | MUSIC: Song-Writing, Free Style, Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B

No experience in the arts is necessary, as we do not focus on the end product, instead the therapeutic process of art making, expressive dance, and music. We believe creativity is the fuel for survival and that something internally happens when we engage in the creative process, whether that’s healing, understanding, acceptance, freedom, or just simply experiencing who we are and who God has created us to be.

Overall Goal of the Camp

To develop self-confidence, self-leadership, self-respect, and an appreciation of self-worth in the lives of middle and high school youth.

By the end of camp, students will:

  1. Be encouraged to live for who they are and who God has created them to be.
  2. Be motivated to continue development of newly discovered skills and abilities.
  3. Be able to identify with themselves and their peers while expressing an interest in the arts.
  4. Be able to lead their peers and families into healthy conversations about positive behaviors.
  5. Be able to demonstrate an understanding of Live2Create’s core values, while identifying personal strengths and opportunities for improvement.

Role of the Student

The role of the student is to participate in all activities and to reflect on their learning experiences. They will need to abide by the rules and meet the expectations as future leaders.

Among the expectations are:

Confidentiality: Students are expected to maintain the integrity of the group by keeping things to themselves and not disclosing what is discussed in the groups out of the classroom.

Respect: Students are expected to respect each other’s opinions, which include allowing each other to express their views and concerns.

Participation: We don’t believe in “I can’t”. You either will or you won’t. Students are encouraged to give 100% participation. Success in our program depends on will and involvement.

Role of the Parent

The role of the parent or legal guardian is to support the youth in all activities and to encourage healthy behaviors at home, school, and work. Parents are expected to read all material shared with them, and keep an open line of communication for issues and concerns.
